Finally, a Butterfly Valve designed for handling dry powders!
Young Industries “Patent Pending” PowderFlow Butterfly Valve utilizes a TransFlow® disc to condition and fluidize the powders handled. The TransFlow® disc uses low volume 3-5 PSIG of compressed air to fluidize and condition powders. The compressed air is delivered to the disc through the disc shaft.
What is the lowest point of most holding hoppers or process vessels?
It is the shut-off valve at the very bottom of the hopper. The PowderFlow Butterfly Valve allows fluidization to start at the lowest point of the vessel.
Standard Butterfly Valves can be a problem when handling dry powders.
When the disc rotates to open, powder tends to pack on the top side of the disc as it rotates to vertical. The disc itself is an obstruction in the discharge throat of the vessel. The TransFlow® disc in the PowderFlow Valve keeps the powder fluid and does not pack powder on the upstream side of the disc. The TransFlow® disc also allows powder to easily flow over it since there is minimal friction between the disc and the powder in the fluidization zone.
