A research university recently had a requirement for a custom laboratory ribbon mixer. Young Industries manufactured a 304 stainless steel horizontal ribbon mixer with a mixing capacity of 0.1 cubic foot. This mixer is designed to operate 24/7 and includes several custom features.

The customers application included metering free flowing Spherical beads in a process at a variable rate. Due to the size and shape of the process vessel above the rotary valve, a large rectangular flange connection is needed. The beads are 1/8” diameter and weigh 125 lbs. per cu. ft. The operating temperature is 1000° F.
Young Industries was asked to develop a system that would solve the problems with handling multiple powders for loading mixers. To complicate matters, the system must be portable and be able to handle 24 different powders from bulk bags weighing up to 2000 lbs.
